INTERLACED URBAN SCALE
The architectonic project for an equipped urban free space goes from impotence to euphoria. On one hand we have a space opportunity for the city of unthinkable size for any other kind of intervention, but the necessity of program within its borders generates the tension between the free land available and its closeness inside groups with one certain use.
Strategic Project ///
The intervention is set up as a group of town planning decisions, closer to the big scale than to the exact definition of every single building in the intervention area; with the final objective of proposing a new way of using this valley between Teruel’s “muelas”. Thus the land distribution is faced with the firm conviction of finding a balance between public and private investment that will make available this important piece of city re-urbanization.
Land is reserved for municipal facilities, infrastructures, commercial use and, of course, housing, that try to produce a compensated city project, fulfilling Teruel’s today necessities and foresee the inertias of its future.
Urban Sustainability ///
But the main feature of the intervention is its attention to the contemporary urban reality, proposing a green tongue that, from the Vega del Turia, will get into the city; highly reinforcing the incipient Teruel’s green belt with an urban park that would articulate pathways on Turia’s riverside and sew every cultural and heritage activity proposed by the project programme.
This attention to urban sustainability is reflected in building pieces, including in the design of a series of energy-saving passive systems, as well as systems for gray water efficient use that will reduce the ecological footprint that this intervention involves.
